United States Marine Band- What Dreams May Come (CD)

What Dreams May Come features music spanning more than a century, beginning with Gustav Holst's Suite No. 1 in E Flat, composed in 1909, and ending with Omar Thomas's Come Sunday that premiered in 2018. Also included are Steven Bryant's Suite Dreams, first performed in 2007, and David Maslanka's A Child's Garden of Dreams, described by the composer as "a symphonic suite for one-on-a-part wind ensemble."

Track List

  1. Suite No. 1 in E-flat Opus 28 No. 1
  2. Suite Dreams
  3. A Child’s Garden of Dreams: There is a desert on the moon where the dreamer sinks so deeply into the ground that she reaches hell.
  4. A Child’s Garden of Dreams: A drunken woman falls into the water and comes out renewed and sober.
  5. A Child’s Garden of Dreams: A horde of small animals frightens the dreamer. The animals increase to a tremendous size and one of them devours the little girl.
  6. A Child’s Garden of Dreams: A drop of water is seen as it appears when looked at through a microscope. The girl sees that the drop is full of tree branches. This portrays the origin of the world.
  7. A Child’s Garden of Dreams: An ascent into heaven where pagan dances are being celebrated; and a descent into hell where angels are doing good deeds.
  8. Come Sunday: Testimony
  9. Come Sunday: Shout!
